How to monetize ideas for blogging?

As beginners in the affiliate business, it’s normal to hit a roadblock. Despite tons of research and preparation, you may find yourself suddenly stuck with what to populate your website.

It’s a common phenomenon, and even veterans experience it.

After slaving too hard and too long with the same topic and content, they wonder why they’re not seeing any improvement in traffic yet. This sometimes may lead to a feeling of failure and anxiety about what to write next.

Having been in this business for many long years, I’ve learned that an article with lots of information will have more chances of getting ranked for certain keywords. When these do, they are often ranked well.

What I’d do then when this happens is to funnel this trickling traffic to my money page and draw inspiration from them to write more content.

For newbies, how to monetize ideas for blogging?


As with all new pursuits, you just need to take the first step. Then, take a second one, and then a third. You do not stop until you’ve found your bearings, and once, you get used to it, it’ll be easier to keep moving.

How to monetize ideas for blogging?

I’m going to share with you a six-step process to help you overcome this obstacle. This has worked for me then and still does now.

Step 1: List down all the ideas that you can think of.

I call this the brainstorm session.

Find a space that is conducive to thinking and dedicate an hour or two just to sit down and make a list of all the topics and find how to monetize ideas for blogging you can think of.

Do not stress about whether they’ll work or not at this point. If you do, you’ll get stuck again. Go easy on yourself and say ‘yes’ to any spark of inspiration.


Besides, you don’t have to start with very brilliant ideas just yet. You will learn how to monetize ideas for blogging by time.

If you still can’t think of something, read a book, or visit a creative site to loosen your mind.

So, for example, if my niche is about space-saving induction cooktops for apartments, I can start by writing down the following possible topics:

  1. Lifestyle of apartment living
  2. Challenges of single young professionals
  3. How to find the right apartment
  4. Fast-paced lifestyle in urban communities
  5. Pros and cons of induction cooking appliances

As soon as you start writing, you’ll find that ideas start to trickle, and before long, you’ll have a long list of ideas to process, edit, and tweak to get you started and learn how to monetize ideas for blogging.

Step 2: Research and determine the right keywords for your articles.

            Your ideas from Step 1 are usually broad strokes, and that is fine.

            Your next step will then be to find the specific keywords that relate to good traffic.

            I suggest that you enlist the help of a keyword generator. What is a keyword generator?

            A keyword generator takes your generic keywords and process them vis-à-vis related traffic. After you key in your generic keywords, you will be given specific ones and their corresponding traffic scores. An example of a keyword generator is Jaaxy, which is what I use.

            Once you’re given these results, choose those keywords that have the best traffic and use them as you start writing about how to monetize ideas for blogging on your list.

            You can also use a text document for the keyword generator to analyze.

            At this point, steer clear from keywords that have low traffic. You may still be able to use these but not just yet.

            Also, keyword generators provide results with regard to competing keywords. This is indicated by the QSR score or ‘quoted search results.’

            If I find an excellent keyword for my niche which means it commands good traffic, I sometimes go ahead and use it, and not bother with the competition, especially when I believe that it relates to a content that I plan to write often and richly about, in the near future.

            That said, there still is value in checking out competition. For instance, if you choose a keyword that has very high competition, you’ll need to write a longer piece, maybe 2000 to 4000 words long.

            Why? This is so that your chances of getting ranked become higher because the longer your content, the more your opportunities of using your keyword as well as LSIs.

            On the other hand, if you intend to use a good keyword that has low competition, you may fare well with a shorter composition, about only 1000 to 1500 words what is optimal for how to monetize ideas for blogging.

            Also, not all your keywords need to be linked to an affiliate site. Some may be used to build traffic and ranking, especially if these are excellent ones and have very good ranking.

            When this happens, I’ll then note down this recipe and plan to do another research on that to find other related keywords.

Also, I can do a separate content solely on this recipe and present it as one of my fascinating discoveries.

Here, you will get the opportunity to brainstorm some more about other compelling topics which you can, in turn, do more research about with regard to traffic and ranking.

An important tip, by the way, before I proceed is to know your targeted market segment behavior and characteristics through research.

This way, you are able to put yourself in their shoes and anticipate how they will react to your topics.

This third step, therefore, is the next level of keyword research which will enable you to enrich your content as well as expand your topic coverage.

The more varied topics you write about in relation to your keyword, the bigger the traffic that these can draw to your website.

Step 4: Find out what popular topics are people searching in relation to your keyword.

Now that you have a growing list of keywords, the next thing to do is to find out what popular searches are people making in relation to your keyword.

How does one do that?

Use Google Instant or Trends. Fill in your keyword in your browser search bar. As soon as you do this, Google will show you in the dropdown box what internet users are researching that are related to the word you just keyed in and that is a good way to learn how to monetize ideas for blogging.

Google is just basically trying to guess what you are looking for when it does this for your convenience. By showing you the popular keyword searches, it is inviting you to just scroll down to any of these popularly searched keywords and click one of them.

Of course, you’re not going to click just yet. Select the ones that you find interesting and put them on your keyword list. If you wish, you can take them all especially if you still have a very short list at this point.

In a way, Google Instant also acts a keyword generator in terms of showing what keywords have the highest traffic.

Another way to lengthen your keyword list is to use the alphabet search. This exercise is done by adding the alphabet letters to your keyword in the Google search bar.

Let me cite the previous example to explain this. If I search for ‘induction cooktop,’ being my keyword, I will type ‘a’ before it in the search bar and check the popular searches for that combination.

This will show you other related and popular searches. Again, select the interesting keywords you can find and add them to your list.

Continue this exercise by typing all the letters of the alphabet one at a time before your keyword and you shall have a lot of ideas that you can shape in how to monetize ideas for blogging.

After that you can also use the alphabet letters at the end of your keyword phrase or even in the middle.

This should be enough to last you many years of writing. I’m sure with this writing exercise, you’ll come out as an expert if you’re not yet one and the longer your experience in doing this, the easier it actually gets. I am speaking from experience here.

Oh, and I know it’s a lot of work but that is actually what it takes to succeed in this affiliate marketing operation. You need hard word and perseverance.

Step 5: Come up with different topics even if you use the same keywords.

As you read through your list and begin writing using your keywords, you will tend to talk about the same things and eventually get bored with it.

To overcome this languor, try to break down the topics and vary your perspectives on each. Also, go through your list and assign topics that are different from each other.

This may be done by varying the type of voice that you use or the kind of article (e.g. call to action, question and answer, or dos and don’ts), that you will craft.

Having a list of topics will also guide you to differentiate your content and writing style.

Sometimes, many of you will be tempted to just jumble the words of your previous title generate a new title. Do not do this because it will be a waste of your time, and also lead you to tire of the topic easily.

Instead, be more creative and break them down, mindful to use your keywords all the time.

Step 6: Start a list of ‘novel ideas.’

Just because you already have a long list of topics to choose from does not mean that you need to completely depend on it.

Remember, this is a guide to help you get out of your ‘writer’s block.’

So, for this step, I’d like you to start another list. This will be your ‘novel ideas’ list.

When you get those sparks of inspirations during the course of your operation, make sure to enter those into this new list.

You may find yourself involved with like-minded communities, engage your audience, read comments or reviews, participate in networking channels, and become more confident about your topic through research.

In doing these activities and becoming more familiar with your market, you will discover several other inspirations and ideas that are relevant to your keyword.

Do not allow these ideas to get past you without writing them down. Who knows? After you engaged a website visitor, for instance, you were able to find out a popular concern.

This may be, to use my example, the high cost of induction cooktops or the lack of affordable options in the market.

You can then decide to write about it and outline affordable combination cooktops as options. Of course, you’ll need to research these well.

You can even come up with an infographic to outline the advantages and disadvantages of using an induction cooktop versus using a combination induction cooktop.

Because this was a popular concern in your niche, you may get this post ranked well by Google.

So, jot those ideas you consider in how to monetize ideas list for blogging down and keep growing your list of creative sparks!

Most of the time, you cannot exactly predict how the market is going to react to your content even with research and statistical references. Of course, these are helpful guides and could stack the odds in your favor.

Be patient with yourself as well. We all have different learning curves.

Try to open yourself up to new ideas and inspirations. Use these to refine your content, strategy, and writing style.

Step 7:   Choose one or two of these ideas that you wish to monetize.

For example, in the induction cooktop list, I discover a trending pattern in my research. This may on the beneficial uses of the induction technology.

I can then use this as one of my ideas for monetization. I can then dedicate one article to just about the fast heating capability of induction cooktops. Then, another article will be about the energy efficiency of using induction ranges. The third article can be about safety.

You can again break down the energy efficiency topic into sub-topics for your succeeding articles such as the material that is used in induction and how it helped a homeowner saved a lot in her electrical bill.

All these articles will still use the same keywords and will target the main focus, but you are monetizing the considerable traffic that is interested in its benefits vis-à-vis other options.

Also, you do not have to even write a related article, you can write about the global energy concern and how we can do our part to alleviate it. Then, you can connect it to your main keyword.

This is called your ‘spider web’ strategy which enables you to produce supportive posts for your income-generating article. This can be done through internal linking within your website, which builds rank and relevancy.

This consistent and homogenous content structure is referred to as, ‘silo-ing.’

Bonus Tip: Driving Traffic to your money page.

As an affiliate marketer, you look to traffic as an income generator. Now that you’ve captured all these money-making ideas on your list, all you need to do is to start writing about them in process of how to monetize ideas for blogging.

As soon as you are able to jumpstart this content production, you will need to closely monitor your traffic. It takes a bit of experimentation to find out what drives traffic and what does not.

Your first ten articles, as mentioned in Step 1 of this article, does not have to include affiliate links. You only use them to draw the traffic from these articles and lead them to our main money page.

So, if you are writing about apartment living lifestyles, you can then link it to your post about the benefits of induction cooking, which you’ll monetized.

If you do it this way, you need not worry if that article does not rank because you still got nine others that are linked to your money page.

Even if you get only five visits a day on this supporting post and 35 other daily visits on the other nine posts, that means 1200 visits in a month, which can potentially be sales conversions.

We have not even multiplied that with the many internal links that we have in each page.

So, once you get the hang of weaving this supporting web around your main money page, you’ll be able to manage the traffic inflow and within your website and increase your chances of sales conversions.
