The more content you produce, the more visits your website get, and the more traffic you have, the higher your chances of making a sale.

So, to generate sustainable income from this business, you need to keep writing, and not just simply writing, but crafting content that ranks and drives visitors to your site.

If you’re new in this affiliate blogging operation and have no professional writing experience nor marketing background, you’ll need tons of practice, if not, capital to outsource this task. Most likely, you’ll have to do it yourself in the first few years.

As you make this exciting journey, you’re going to learn many things about effective communication, and what opportune time to practice!

Now where should you start?


For starters, the best way to begin a new task in affiliate blogging is to refer to an established and proven system of doing things such as a template or format.

In school, we were taught the five-paragraph essay structure where you have the introduction on your first paragraph, followed by three supporting paragraphs, and then the last one as your concluding paragraph.


This format somehow made an impression on me, and to this day, I’m able to persevere in writing because of this templated structure which enabled me to organize my thoughts.

Also, on my not-so-inspiring days, I manage to still produce something because of this template. It somehow helps me break down a topic into simpler and more cohesive sections.

Don’t worry if writing is not your passion. That’ll probably change once you’ll earn your first income out of an article that you just published.

Three years ago, I was able to generate a thousand-dollar commission after my article ran for eight months and resulted in a lot of sales.

So, if this got you interested, let’s begin our lesson on the five-paragraph essay. Here, we will target a 500-word article.

Basically, the introduction will have 100 words. Your body will contain three supporting paragraphs with 100 words each and your concluding paragraph will have 100 words too.

Now that we’ve broken down our expected turnout into 100-word parts, managing one paragraph at a time appears much easier, don’t you think? Seriously, 100 words is just a few sentences. It’s elementary.

Later on, I’ll share with you some tips on how refine this structure.

A blog post normally contains a minimum of 1000 words so to achieve that, you only have to double your sentences for each paragraph. That means each will comprise 200 words.

Surely, you would not just shoot for the minimum.

There are a lot of ways to introduce your topic before you get to the main discussion so you can definitely use more words there. Also, the conclusion can also act as a summary of your discussion, which you can compose with more than just a few sentences. This should lengthen your content past the minimum without the fluff.

As you gain momentum in your core discussion, you won’t realize you’ve exceeded the minimum already.

The Five-Paragraph Structure in affiliate blogging

A. Introduction

     To put it simply, the introductory paragraph tells your readers what your subject is about.

Although it seems like the easiest to do, this is where most people get stuck.

Don’t worry. You do not need to start off with a bang just yet. Just write what the introduction is supposed to do: present your topic.

As you become more proficient and confident with your writing, you will learn how to add a hook in this portion so that you keep your readers interested in what you have to say.

In the meantime, let’s just stick with the basics, okay?

So, in your introductory paragraph, you must present the three main supporting points that you will expound in your body.

Remember that your body consists of three paragraphs and each paragraph will be dedicated to one supporting point or idea.

B. Body (Supporting Content)

     Here’s where we go into detail with our subject matter using three paragraphs.

     So, you do not get overwhelmed, let’s break it further down again.

     Look at each paragraph as your micro-essay version which will be composed of five sentences.

     Once again, we adhere to the five-category-template, with your first sentence as the introduction, the second and third sentences providing supportive details, and the fifth sentence as your conclusion.

     Isn’t it awesome how this template works? Now, essay writing does not appear to be too formidable now.

     Remember to follow this structure as you take baby steps in blogging. Before long, it’ll become like second nature to you and you’ll realize how manageable content-writing can be.

     This’ll also keep you focused on your sluggish days, just it did in my time.

     The more you practice, the better your skills become. When this happens, you can take off from this template and develop innovative styles to suit your personality and that of your audience.

C. Conclusion in affiliate blogging

     Acting as your summary, the concluding paragraph will contain your three main points again accompanied by short but important explanation for each.

     In this part of your essay, you can also zero in on salient points that you think your readers should learn from your discussion.

     Another way to conclude your essay is to break down your summary into three mini summaries of your key points.

     The concluding paragraph may also contain your ‘call to action’ or CTA which serves as a way to connect with your audience, start a conversation with them, and urge them to do something.

     You conclude your pitch either with an invitation to purchase, enlist in a free subscription, sign up for a free account or email communication, or proceed to another page in your affiliate blogging website.

Helpful Tips for affiliate blogging

Now that you have a template on which to build your content, I’ll share more helpful tips on how you can create compelling material for your website.

By now, you already have a niche, keyword, and affiliate program. Let’s start churning out your traffic-driving content and get those sales conversions done. Here’s how.

A. Research.

Since we are operating on a sales-driven timeline, we cannot just move forward blindly without a basis for our content.

Communication is only effective if your audience gets your message and sees value in it.

So, you must find out who your audience is, what content interests them, and how can you convert this interest. Once you’ve found those out, the next step is to research your chosen topic.

Do not forget to apply the five-paragraph template to organize your thoughts and achieve a smooth flow of ideas.

If you’re going to promote a product, get to know its features and how these can address the needs of your market. Jot them down.

Also note some interesting perspectives about your subject matter, supportive statistics if there are any, and other enticing details that can serve as part of your hook in the introductory paragraph.

Take care to keep it short and sweet. Your purpose here is to introduce your topic and get them interested so that they will want to read on.

Again, your choice of what to use as hook should relate to your audience behavior. If your market demographic is young, use a conversational tone and a hook that relates to their lifestyle.

B. Break down your topic using an outline.

Apply what you’ve learned earlier regarding the introduction, body, and conclusion template. Outline your ideas according to that structure.

For each paragraph, write two or three sentences so that you are able to determine the flow of your thoughts.

C. Polish your outline.

     After finishing your outline, try to find out if you’ve covered all grounds with regard to the topic.

     Keep in mind that your hook should relate to the supporting content in the body and that the conclusion refers back these with a call-to-action.

     Include your CTA in the outline. Tighten your content and strive for cohesiveness.

D. Start affiliate blogging with a draft.

     You may have not realized it, but you’ve already made headway here.

     With your outline as guide, you can already start writing your sentences based on the template. Since you’ve began to write two to three sentences for each part of your outline, all you need to do now tie them together as though you are conversing to someone.

     This is where you need to style your sentences such that it flows from one thought to another.

     With your targeted minimum of 1000 words, start by introducing your topic as you stated, adding a few words that’ll connect with the next sentence.

     If you can, target a hundred-word each for your introduction and conclusion.

     Work your way down from the introduction, then the body, until you reach your conclusion. Expound a little in your body based on the few sentences that you’ve provided in the outline.

     You can expound using examples, figures, or facts that you’ve jotted down earlier. This is where you provide the information that your audience expects to find so keep it interesting yet tight.

     The conclusion should be the easiest since you already have the outline and can therefore see what main points you’ll need to reiterate, finishing off with your ‘call to action’ line.

     Now that you’ve substantiated your raw content, you should be able to finish off the raw essay in about an hour. After doing this often enough, you’ll find that you can craft your material in just thirty to forty-five minutes. Trust me. ‘Constant correct practice makes perfect.’

E.  Edit and review.

     As a writer, you cannot edit enough.

     Sometimes, a few incoherent sentences can make or break a sale.

     So, review your draft and check for grammatical errors, misspells, clarity of thought, flow of ideas, and overall impact on your audience.

     Put yourself in the shoes of your readers and find out if your article interests you and compels you to purchase. Is it persuasive or helpful enough to my market?

     If not, refine and edit if you have to.

     Remember when you make affiliate blogging post, don’t forget to put in your affiliate links and other internal or external links if there are any. These add up to your ranking and traffic.

That’s about it for your writing fundamentals.

Later on, you’ll need to do more research on how to apply search engine optimization techniques such as proper keyword use.

While you fill up your affiliate website with articles, check the high-traffic websites in your niche and determine what makes them rank and apply those techniques to your content creation.

If there is a topic that drew in considerable traffic, strive to leverage on that and put together your own take on the topic.
